When Can Your Baby Sleep With a Pillow?
How old is the baby's pillow 1 year old or 2 years old ?
Sleep is a major event in life, and as adults we cannot sleep without pillows. But what about babies? When we can use pillows and what kind of pillows to buy, we need to do a lot of homework.
When exactly do babies sleep on pillows?
There is no unified answer in the industry about when babies start using pillows to sleep. But the basic consensus is that it is not recommended to use pillows for babies under 1 year old.
It is not recommended for babies to start sleeping on pillows too early. There are two main reasons:
A 1-year-old baby has limited mobility, and the pillow can easily cover the mouth and nose and cause suffocation;
The purpose of the pillow is to support the physiological curvature of the cervical spine. The spine of a baby develops from a straight line to an S shape. It is meaningless to use a pillow under the age of 1
It is generally believed that after one year old, the probability of a baby encountering danger in sleep will be significantly reduced. Therefore, for safety reasons, it is best to give the baby a pillow after one year old at the earliest. However, there is no consensus on whether it is 1 year old, 1.5 years old, 2 years old or which node starts to use the pillow.
The advice of the NHS in the UK is not to give babies (before 1 year old) pillows.
The recommendation of the American healthline is that it is safer for babies to use pillows after 18 months.
The Australian Government advises that children should not use pillows until they are 2 years old.
Therefore, it is up to the parents to decide when to let the child sleep on the pillow. After 1 year old, if it is observed that the child really needs a pillow, then introduce it.
Signal: The child likes to lean on the adult's arm when sleeping, or likes to sleep on a blanket, or the parent's pillow, which means that the child feels more comfortable to sleep on something, and it is time to sleep on the pillow.
The purpose of providing pillows to children is to make them sleep more comfortably. But if the child sleeps well without a pillow and shows no signs of needing a pillow, even if the child is over 2 years old, it doesn't matter without a pillow.
